Facebook and your Relationships
(mild profanity in this video, but it is still funny)
Have you ever bought something that you thought you just HAD to have? That it was the most perfect, soft, beautiful thing you had ever seen. Even though it was twice as much as you wanted to spend that day.
It was the ONLY one in the store.
It was on sale and the full retail was 5 times what you wanted to spend, so you are getting a super-duper bargain!

After you buy it, you get home and look online and stores, like Amazon are still selling it for the “way over your budget” price.

And it has these beautiful grommets and rings and studs. And it is sage. You LOVE sage.
You feel thrifty AND chic.
You carry it everywhere you go. To the office. To lunch with your friend where you show off super cool new chic purse.
Then, you get home and you notice that the grommets and rings made a different sound when you set it on the counter this time.
Yes, you buy a purse (sometimes) for the noise it makes.
Do you see that? I am missing a screw. (no jokes about having a screw loose please, I am heartbroken).
So, in the age of the Internets, I got online and searched out B. Makowsky. Sent them a quick email about how I loved my new purse, but I needed a screw and if they could please send me one, I would be pleased as punch.
hah.
I will say dear reader, that they were quick with their response, but acceptable, it was not.
We are a wholesale company and specialize in sales through high-end department stores and boutiques. We apologize, we do not sell/send the screws separately. We request you to take your bag and receipt back to the store where purchased for assistance. We also strongly recommend asking to speak with a manager to tell him/her about your specific issues in order to get the assistance you need.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
Translation:
We don’t have time to mess with the petty issues of one lowly customer. If we sent YOU a screw we would have to send EVERYONE a screw and there would be anarchy. Just take your baby poo green purse back to the store where you got it and complain to them. We don’t care about you, your shopping experience or needs.
And even if that ISN’T what they meant. That is what I feel and my opinion of that company is diminished to the point of “no more”.
So, later today, I will be heading back over to the local TJ Maxx and getting my precious pennies back and then going next store to target and buying TEN purses!
Hungry.
(wow, I realize it has been a long time since I have done one of these, shame on me)
But, I have been hungry.
Seriously.
On days when I would rather run from myself than post to my blog and take a good hard look at life.
I eat.
I don’t smoke (anymore)
I don’t drink (anymore)
I don’t watch much tv (anymore)
my only vice-my only guilty pleasure.
Food.
Because I THINK I am hungry.
Most of the time, I’m really not.
I hunger for other things.
If I could just slow down enough (and NOT eat)….
maybe I could figure out what I really hunger.

Last night, I got an email from my mother (sent to her entire email list) about a mysterious red van with out of state plates that had been trying to entice middle school age boys into their vehicle. Luckily both of the boys approached got a creepy feeling and ran.
Unfortunately, this is not an urban legend.
I heard the story yesterday at soccer practice, one of the former players little brothers was one of the boys approached and his mom had told a few of the parents about it that day.
When my son got in the car I asked him if he knew that his friends brother was almost abducted and he said sure. I got a text message about it.
This morning we were talking about it again and I asked him, exactly when did you get a text message?
“two days ago, right after it happened”
My son had known to be on the look out for a red van for two days. His mom, even being pretty tech savvy didn’t get the memo until a full day later. If parents employed the same tools our kids did, the chance of catching those bozos would have greatly increased. Instead, many of us relied on good ole chatting by the car and/or email which doesn’t follow everyone where ever they go like the cell phone.
I am still impressed that the message has gotten around our community with out it being out in the open for the bad guys to even know that we knew to be looking for them.
This weeked was a soccer family dream. Saturday afternoon we watched the 14 yr old and his friends (13-18) play two games against another local school. The Junior Varsity game was SUPER rough with several yellow cards being tossed and players taken out with injuries (most very minor). Normally Varsity games are rougher than the JV, so I was concerned.
For no reason. It was a great game (even though we didn’t win).
Sunday, we headed to Columbus, Ohio to see The Crew play. It is the closest MLS team to us and luckily the best in the MLS right now.
GO CREW!
Look at these boys. Most of them were born when I was in high school and college.
Damn, how did I get old?

I am not a fan of the Dynamo keeper. He did a really good job, but he is one of the oldest players in the league, earlier in the season my son dubbed him “hitler head” because he shaved the sides of his head where he was turning grey.
Embrace your age baby, embrace it!
If I were your age (oh hell, I am) and I could kick a ball like that I would be a happy fox.
Happy.

But, when these are the boys you have to defend against. I can see why you would be scared.
Oh, Frankie.
I love these ads. They are classic, just like the icons featured.
I noticed a little treat in this ad yesterday -can you have an Easter Egg in print? (Looks like you can!)

The books are references to Kate’s life!
Now I am looking forward to seeing other ads in the same campaign to see if they have any little secrets.
(alternative title: I may be fat, but I have rockin’ nails-sometimes I have a really OFF sense of humor)

Those are my hands, with my own REAL all the same length, still haven’t broken a one (and this picture was taken LAST Sunday) nails. Did I say natural, none of that fake acrylic or gel stuff?
REAL Baby, REAL!
This is the first time in my life I have ever had more than a sliver of a finger nail that I didn’t pay someone for. As a child I chewed my nails down to the quick. To prevent that I started applying Lee nails on my own and then once I had a steady income, every two weeks I would pay a someone to do them.
I have been taking Hair and Nail vitamins for another issue for over a year and WOW it is really paying off in this area. I don’t even have to coat them with polish!
